San Tommaso is a sandy beach located in the southern part of Vasto's coastline, featuring dune ridges and situated within the Marina di Vasto Natural Reserve established in 2007. The beach is 50 meters wide and accommodates approximately 500 bathers per day. It is surrounded by significant tourist infrastructure including hotels and campgrounds, with a bicycle path along the shore.

Marine water body (IT_12_VASTO_SANSALVO). The water drains directly to sea. The beach width is 50 meters.

Location

Vasto, Abruzzo region, southern coastline (Contrada S. Tommaso locality). The sampling point is located on a sandy beach with dune formations.

Lifeguard and first aid services during bathing season. Facilities for disabled persons. Toilets. Waste collection service. Bathing structures and concessions present. Bicycle path. Hotels and campgrounds nearby. Water sports rental (canoes, kayaks, windsurfing) regulated by summer ordinance.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. No direct wastewater discharges are present in the bathing area. A sewage collector line is located behind the beach (Lungomare Duca degli Abruzzi) that conveys wastewater from Vasto Marina to a treatment plant 10 kilometers away in Montenero di Bisaccia.

Risks

Hypothetical risk of sewage collector rupture due to lifting pump failure. Marine waters in the Abruzzo area show sparse algal blooms in summer; past occurrences of dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or absent toxic species. No cyanobacterial blooms have been detected.
