The bathing area is located in front of the mouth of the Torrente Calvano in Pineto, Abruzzo. The beach is characterized by sandy shoreline with a width of 20 meters. Coastal water body (Acque Costiere) in the flat littoral zone with medium stability. The bathing area extends over 1.135 square kilometers. The water body is identified as IT_12_TRONTO_RICCIO.

Location

Pineto, Province of Teramo, Abruzzo region. The beach is located in front of the mouth of Torrente Calvano. The competent authority is the Municipality of Pineto, Public Works Department, Maritime Land Service, Via Milano 1, 64025 Pineto.

Facilities

Private concessionaires of maritime state property provide services. No public facilities are present in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The primary pollution source identified is the presence of the Torrente Calvano mouth. Wastewater treatment is managed by a facility located in contrada Piane Vomano and operated by Ruzzo Servizi S.p.A. for ATO n. 5 Teramano. No industrial or urban discharge is present near the beach. Marine waters in the Abruzzo area have not presented characteristic cyanobacteria blooms. Limited algal blooms occur in summer months, with some dinoflagellate blooms detected in past years with scarce or absent toxic species.

Risks

The mouth of Torrente Calvano is identified as the main source of pollution. Short-duration pollution events are under study with appropriate modeling approaches. Marine waters show limited algal blooms in summer months.
