A coastal bathing area located 1 km south of the Gallipari River in the Calabria region of southern Italy. The beach features a plain coastal morphology with a seabed slope of 1.3% from the waterline to the 5-metre isobath. Sediment grain size ranges from 0.13 to 2 mm. The water is classified as excellent quality and is situated in an area facing agricultural territories between the urban centres of Isca sullo Jonio and Badolato.

Water

Coastal water body. Seabed slope of 1.3% from the waterline to the 5-metre isobath. Beach sediment grain size ranges from 0.13 to 2 mm. Area extends 1.239 square kilometres. The water body is named Santa Caterina dello Jonio - San Sostene.

Location

Badolato municipality, Catanzaro province, Calabria region. The bathing area is located 1 km south of the Gallipari River and faces territories between the towns of Isca sullo Jonio and Badolato.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. The Torrente Barone stream mouth has been identified as a source of impact on bathing water quality.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events from stormwater runoff originating from agricultural areas have been identified. Cyanobacterial proliferation has not occurred in the past four years. Macroalgae, phytoplankton, and potentially toxic species proliferation has not occurred in the past four years.
