This bathing area is part of a coastal stretch within the Gulf of Gela in Sicily. It features a low sandy beach with low seabed and dune ridges, typical Mediterranean scrub vegetation, and a dry climate. The beach width is 25 metres. The area is scarcely urbanized with numerous agricultural settlements for horticultural production in greenhouses.

Water

Part of the Strait of Sicily water body. Coastal tract 15 in the Acate and Minor Gela-Acate basins, extending 0.7 km. Low seabed with sandy bottom.

Location

Municipality of Acate, Sicily, province of Ragusa. The bathing area can only be reached from the waterline due to difficult access routes. Contact: Municipality of Acate switchboard +39 0932 990771, Port Authority of Pozzallo +39 0932 953327.

Facilities

Unequipped free coastal stretch with no signs or municipal ordinances prohibiting animal access. The bathing area is used exclusively for swimming.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is subject to dry subtropical climate with limited erosive phenomena. Treated wastewater from Acate municipality is discharged into the Dirillo river; the Marina di Acate district lacks sewerage system.

Risks

Intensive agricultural activities (greenhouse cultivation), untreated urban discharges, and exceptional meteorological events may cause soil runoff and malfunctioning of water treatment plants. Heavy rainfall can cause overflow of water flowing into bathing waters. No anomalous situations have occurred in recent years.
