Spiaggia Macconi is a low sandy beach located within the Gulf of Gela in southeastern Sicily. The beach features a shallow seabed with dune cordons and typical Mediterranean scrubland vegetation in a dry climate. It is easily accessible and primarily used by local residents for swimming.

Water

Coastal water body extending 1.1 km. Part of the Sicily Channel (Canale di Sicilia). The beach width is 10 metres with a shallow seabed.

Location

Located in the municipality of Acate in the province of Ragusa, Sicily. The beach is part of coastal section 15 of the Sicily Channel (Canale di Sicilia). Coordinates: 36.9804 N, 14.3614 E.

Facilities

The beach is free and unequipped with no designated facilities. There are no signage or municipal ordinances prohibiting access by animals.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Monitored under the Sicilian regional water protection plan (P.T.A. Reg Sicilia).

Risks

Heavy rainfall can cause land runoff into bathing waters. Treated wastewater from the municipality of Acate is discharged into the Dirillo river. The Marina di Acate fraction lacks sewer infrastructure. Intensive agricultural activities (greenhouse cultivation) are present in the surrounding area. No cyanobacterial blooms or macroalgal/phytoplankton proliferation was recorded in the previous four years.
