The bathing water is located 300 m north of Vasto Marina Pier on the sandy beach of Vasto Marina at the mouth of Fosso Marino in the Abruzzo region. The sampling point is situated in the central part of Vasto beach in an area with significant residential development, services, and hotel facilities. The beach has a width of 150 m and typically accommodates approximately 500 bathers per day.

Coastal marine water. Beach width: 150 m. Coverage area: 0.750 km. The water body is classified as Coastal Waters - Terraces - Medium Stability - B2.

Location

Vasto, Chieti Province, Abruzzo region, Italy. The sampling point is on the northern side of Vasto Marina beach at the mouth of Fosso Marino. Parking is available at the beach.

Facilities

Lifeguards and first aid services, disabled facilities, toilets, food and beverage services, sports facilities, waste collection, accommodations (hotels), bathing facilities (concessions), bicycle path, parking. Animal access is permitted on the beach during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. No direct sewage discharges are present in the bathing area. Marine waters in the Abruzzo area have not shown characteristic cyanobacteria blooms. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation events have been recorded. Sparse algal blooms occur during summer months; past years have recorded some dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or no toxic species presence.

Risks

A potential critical event is the rupture of the sewer collector due to blocking of the lifting pumps. Marine cyanobacteria blooms have not been observed. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation events have not occurred.
