Lungo Mare E. Cordella bathing area is located in the northern part of Vasto's sandy beach in the Abruzzo region. The beach has a width of 50 metres and accommodates approximately 500 bathers per day. The sampling point is situated at the terminal part of the beach in an area with significant residential and service infrastructure.

Coastal waters. The bathing area extends over 1.150 square kilometres.

Location

Vasto, Chieti Province, Abruzzo region, Italy. Located at Lungo Mare E. Cordella, northern side of the beach near the Monument to the Bather, approximately 1100 metres north of Marina di Vasto pier. Parking is available at the beach.

Facilities

Lifeguard and first aid services are active during the bathing season. Disabled access services, toilet facilities, food and beverage outlets, waste collection, accommodation structures (hotels), bathing facilities (concessions), and parking are available.

Season

The profile was prepared in February 2021 and is scheduled for review and update in 2025. Services operate during the official bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as SUFFICIENT. No discharges of wastewater are present in the area. Sewage from Vasto Marina is collected by a sewer line and transported via lift pumps to a treatment plant operated by CON.I.V. located in Padula, Montenero di Bisaccia, approximately 10 kilometres away. Marine waters in the Abruzzo area have not shown characteristic cyanobacterial blooms. Sparse algal blooms occur during summer months, with occasional dinoflagellate blooms but with little or no presence of toxic species.

Risks

A potential critical event has been identified: rupture of the sewer collector due to blockage of lift pumps. This remains under modelling assessment. No cyanobacterial blooms or macroalgae proliferation events have occurred.
