A sandy beach in Francavilla al Mare with sand comprising over 99% of the composition and medium granulometry. The beach is approximately 40 metres wide and borders urban settlements and structures related to summer tourism activities. The water body is classified as Excellent quality. River mouth influences are present in the area.

Water

River mouth (Fiume Alento). Coastal waters in the Plains region with medium stability classification. Submarine discharge conduits extend 2000 metres from the coast.

Location

Francavilla al Mare, Chieti Province, Abruzzo Region, Italy. The bathing water extends 0.9 square kilometres. Municipal office located at Corso Roma 7, Francavilla al Mare (85/49201). Tourism information office at Piazza Sirena, CAP 66023 (085-817169).

Facilities

Bathing establishments, first aid and assistance services, disabled facilities, toilets, recreational areas, food and beverage services, sports facilities, seafront promenade, and cycling paths. Animals are prohibited by regional ordinance.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Two operational wastewater treatment plants (FRANCAVILLA-FORO with 150 kW capacity and FRANCAVILLA-PRETARO with 135 kW capacity) serve the area, each designed for up to 50,000 inhabitants with 96% connection to the sewage system. A third treatment plant is under construction on the Alento River. River mouth identified as a pollution source.

Risks

River mouth influences. Studies are underway regarding short-duration pollution events. In previous years, some dinoflagellate blooms were recorded with minimal or absent toxic species presence. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in marine waters off the Abruzzo coast.
