Fjellerup Strand is a bathing beach approximately 5 kilometres long and 20 metres wide located in the northern part of Norddjurs Municipality. The beach extends from Skovgårde Strand in the west and ends where the summer house area concludes in the east. The distance from the beach edge to a depth of 2 metres is approximately 200 to 250 metres. Water temperature varies between 12°C and 20°C during the bathing season.

Saltwater beach. Approximately 5 kilometres long and 20 metres wide. Distance from beach edge to 2 metres depth: 200 to 250 metres. Water temperature: 12°C to 20°C during bathing season. Predominant surface current direction is from east to west, though it may vary significantly with wind.

Location

Fjellerup Strand is located in the northern end of Norddjurs Municipality. GPS reference point: Fjellerup Strand, Klitvej, 8585 Glesborg. Access is available along Klitvej and Vestre Klitvej via small paths. Four larger car parks are located near the beach, with additional parking available along Klitvej and Vestre Klitvej. A disabled parking space is available on Vestre Klitvej.

Facilities

Four larger car parks near Klitvej (at ice house), Bøsholmstien, Hemming Nielsens Vej, Møllebækvej and Tværvej. Disabled car park on Vestre Klitvej. Tables and benches at the beach. Rescue posts along the beach. Toilets at three of the car parks. Ice house and fish shop at Klitvej. Disabled-accessible bathing pier installed seasonally at the beach near the fish shop. Fjellerup Strands Camping located approximately 100 metres from the beach.

Season

Dogs must be kept on leash on the beach from 1 April to 30 September. Water temperature monitoring: 12°C to 20°C during bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classifications are based on control samples taken regularly over the preceding 4-year period, analysing E. coli and enterococci. Nine monitoring stations assess water quality. Most stations report excellent quality: DKBW 824 (Good), DKBW 831, 832, 846, 847, 848, 899, 904, 905 (Excellent). Water quality at Møllebækken sampling location is classified as poor due to risk of overflow from the municipal treatment plant and combined sewer system.

Risks

Low risk of blue-green algae blooms. Risk of seaweed accumulation is relatively high; large quantities of seaweed can wash ashore. Low risk of chemical pollution from ship accidents. Low risk of oxygen depletion due to shallow water and current conditions. Risk of faecal pollution from summer house wastewater treatment and combined sewer overflows in Fjellerup town, particularly affecting Møllebækken outlet area. Low risk of pollution from yacht toilet tank discharge. Pollen accumulation is a recurring phenomenon that can locally cause poor bathing water quality, particularly pine pollen during spring and early summer with weak easterly winds.
