Nord Mergolo is a bathing area located in Montenero di Bisaccia, Campobasso province, Molise region. The beach features medium-fine grained sand that is either loose or compacted, along with gravel and heterometric pebbles ranging from rounded to sub-rounded. Dunes are present in the area. The beach is moderately wide, approximately 40–50 metres across, and accommodates approximately 6,850 daily bathers.

The bathing area is situated between the Trigno River mouth and the Mergola Stream mouth. The monitored area extends 1,850 metres along the coast.

Location

The bathing area is located in the municipality of Montenero di Bisaccia, Campobasso province, between the mouth of the Trigno River and the mouth of the Mergola Stream. The nearest town is Montenero di Bisaccia.

Water Quality

The wastewater treatment for the main town is carried out by a municipal treatment plant located in Contrada Canniviere, which treats sewage from the urban centre and the industrial zone (approximately 12,000 population equivalents). The treatment plant includes primary treatment (automatic screening, lifting, sand removal, and fat removal followed by primary sedimentation), secondary treatment (biological oxidation and sedimentation), and tertiary treatment (final disinfection using sodium hypochlorite). Sludge undergoes aerobic digestion and drying on beds or mechanical extraction. Wastewater from Montenero di Bisaccia marina is treated by a consortium treatment plant managed by C.O.N.I.V. No specific monitoring measures or particular interventions are currently in place.
