A sandy beach located 700 metres north of the Rio Mulino river mouth in San Salvo, Abruzzo. The beach has a medium width of approximately 45 metres and receives an average of 2,500 daily swimmers. The area is 70% urbanised with residential and tourist infrastructure, while the remaining portion consists of equipped parks and gardens. The bathing water is classified as excellent.

Location

San Salvo, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo region. Multiple beach establishments (La Caravella, L'Ancora, L'Aurora, Happydays, Playa del Sol, Lido Fausto, Il Corallo) provide reserved parking, accessible pathways from parking to beach entrance with ramps and platforms, information systems, toilets, changing rooms, showers, bar, restaurant, and beach facilities.

Eight beach establishments with parking, accessible pathways to the sea, toilets, changing rooms, showers, bars, restaurants, informational signage on water quality, waste differentiation panels, beach amenities, and children's games. Blue Flag certification (Bandiera Blu) awarded. Accessible routes to the sea available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is exclusively a tourist and residential zone with no significant pollution sources. A wastewater treatment plant operates in the neighbouring municipality of Montenero di Bisaccia. No cyanobacterial blooms have been detected in waters off the Abruzzo coast. Occasional low-level algal blooms of dinoflagellates occur in summer months with minimal or no toxic species present.

Risks

Fosso Mulino is identified as a source affecting bathing water. Occasional low-level algal blooms of dinoflagellats occur in summer. Short-term pollution events are under study with modelling approaches.
