Lake Achen is the largest lake in North Tyrol with an area of 6.8 km² and a maximum depth of 133 m. It has been used as a hydroelectric storage reservoir since 1927. Wastewater treatment in the catchment area beginning in 1990 reduced nutrient content and eliminated cyanobacterial blooms that previously occurred. The northern bathing area is located on the western shore.
