Achensee, Strandbad Buchau

Achensee is the largest lake in North Tyrol, covering 6.8 km² with a maximum depth of 133 m. It has been used as a hydroelectric storage reservoir since 1927. Strandbad Buchau is a public bathing beach on the lake. Wastewater treatment measures implemented from 1990 onwards in the catchment area have reduced nutrient inputs and improved water quality significantly.

Alpine lake with surface area of 6.8 km², maximum depth of 133 m, and average depth of approximately 41 m. Water renewal time is approximately 17 years.

Location

Located in North Tyrol, Austria. The bathing area is situated on Achensee lake.

Facilities

Public bathing beach with showers and toilets available. Waste disposal facilities provided. Dogs and other pets are prohibited.

Season

Official monitoring season: June to September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Microbiological monitoring over the past 5 years shows consistent excellent water quality with no exceedances of guide or limit values for E. coli and Enterococci.
