Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No days of bathing prohibition or advisement due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from tributaries (ribeiro de Vilarchão and ribeiro de Leal), the nearby wastewater treatment plant (ETAR de Mosteiros), and the local rainwater drainage network. Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur during precipitation or in case of untreated effluent discharge. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation potential are all low.
