Algodio is a sandy urban beach with rock formations located in the center of the village of Ericeira. It has direct access to the town center and is bounded to the north by a natural rocky spur separating it from Praia de São Sebastião and to the south by the fishing port pier.

Season

June 12 to September 12, 2021. Sampling frequency: triweekly.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2020 per Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Low contamination risk based on water quality history. No days of bathing prohibition or advice against bathing due to short-term pollution events in the 2020 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution (less than 72 hours) may occur due to excessive rainfall runoff from the stormwater drainage network or sewerage network failure, typically lasting 1–2 days. Potential microbiological pollution sources include surface water drainage network and sewerage network failure, with accidents possible at a nearby pumping station. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are all unlikely.
