Baleia is a long sandy beach surrounded by cliffs located in Mafra municipality. Natural pools form on the north side of the beach. The bathing water is monitored triweekly during the official bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2020 under Decreto-Lei 135/09. Contamination risk is very low based on water quality history. No days of bathing advisory or prohibition due to short-term pollution in 2020.

Risks

Short-term pollution may occur due to increased river discharge during heavy rainfall, though such events typically last 1–2 days. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are unlikely.
