Armona-Mar is a coastal bathing water located on a beach with restricted use, situated on Armona Island within the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Natura 2000 protected sites, and a RAMSAR-designated area. The beach features golden sand with an extensive shoreline of 325 metres and dunes supporting typical coastal flora. The tidal range is 3.4 metres with a mean wave height of 0.5 metres, and winds predominantly blow from the east-southeast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09. No pollution sources are present in the immediate vicinity. Zero days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution events during the 2024 bathing season. Microbiological contamination is unlikely, though may occur remotely during severe storms involving long-distance pollutant transport.

Risks

Microbiological contamination possible during severe storms involving long-distance pollutant transport. Macroalgae proliferation is frequent. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton proliferation are unlikely.
