Coastal bathing water on a semi-natural beach within the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, a Natura 2000 site and RAMSAR area. The beach extends 95 metres and features a substrate of mud and gravel. Ocean currents are experienced during tidal transitions. The area has a tidal range of 3.4 metres and typical wave heights of 0.5 metres, with predominant winds from the east-southeast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution in the 2024 bathing season. Short-term pollution events are unlikely but may occur due to occasional sanitation infrastructure failures or intense precipitation causing surface runoff or overflows.

Risks

Microbiological contamination may occur from sanitation infrastructure malfunctions or heavy rainfall events. Ocean currents are present, particularly during tidal transitions. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely; macroalgae proliferation is frequent; phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely.
