The main pond at Bad Erna is a bathing lake located approximately 4 km south of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Lower Lusatia Heathland Nature Park. It was created as a residual water body from lignite mining operations that began in the 1870s. The lake has an irregular basin shape with an area of 11.3 hectares and a narrow strip of land in the middle. Water visibility ranges between 1 and 2 metres. The water is slightly alkaline with a pH value just above neutral.
