Badesee Echtz

Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Badesee Echtz is an artificial lake located in the Düren district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The bathing water has been officially designated since at least 1992 and covers an area of 13.3 hectares with a shoreline of 250 metres. The lake is situated in a former brown coal mining area (Alfred mine, 1918–1941) at an elevation of 118 metres. Water transparency exceeds 2 metres, with average temperatures of 20.45°C and moderate conductivity of 493 µS·cm⁻¹.

Artificial lake. Area: 13.3 hectares. Catchment area: less than 10 km². Average depth: 14 metres. Maximum depth: 18 metres. Water level fluctuations: approximately 1 metre. The lake is stratified with moderate fish stock. Located in a former brown coal mining area.

Rated as excellent in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Water temperature ranges from 9.8°C to 26.2°C with a mean of 20.45°C. pH ranges from 7.5 to 8.75 with a mean of 8.07. Conductivity ranges from 436 to 510 µS·cm⁻¹ with a mean of 493. Water transparency consistently exceeds 2 metres. No microbiological or chemical contamination detected in sediments.

Risks

Occasional bird activity requiring observation; camping operation requires monitoring. No cercariae (duck fleas) detected. No observed cyanobacterial blooms in the past four years and no future risk of cyanobacterial mass development assessed. Future mining-related influence on water level anticipated. Flood discharge from HRB Echtz occurs during high water events.
