Barreta is a coastal bathing water located on a golden sand beach within the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, a Natura 2000 and RAMSAR protected site. The beach has restricted use due to its association with sensitive natural systems. It features a wide sandy beach 400 metres long with typical dune flora. Tidal range is 3.4 metres with mean wave height of 0.5 metres, and predominant wind direction is east-southeast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09. No pollution sources identified in the immediate vicinity. No days in bathing season 2024 when bathing was advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution. Microbiological contamination is unlikely, though it may occur seldom during severe offshore storms involving long-distance transport of pollutants.

Microbiological contamination may occur in rare cases of heavy storms at sea involving long-distance transport of pollutants. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Macroalgae proliferation is common. Phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely.
