Coastal bathing water located on a beach with restricted use in the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, a Natura 2000 and RAMSAR protected site. The beach features golden sand with dunes and typical flora, extending 450 metres. Tidal range is 3.4 metres with mean wave height of 0.5 metres. Predominant wind direction is E/SE.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: 2024 (complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09). No pollution sources affect the bathing water quality. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution occurred in bathing season 2024. Monthly sampling frequency.

Risks

Short-term microbiological contamination is unlikely but possible during severe storm events involving long-distance pollutant transport. Macroalgae proliferation is common. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton proliferation are unlikely.
