Bassona - Nord Foce Bevano is a coastal bathing area in the Ravenna municipality of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The beach is approximately 50 metres wide and features coastal dunes with coniferous forests and natural areas in the hinterland. The area experiences beach erosion. It is classified as an excellent bathing water (2015–2018 reference period) with no significant pollution sources or direct sewage discharges.

Coastal marine water in a flat alluvial zone with high stability. No watercourses or direct marine discharges are present in the bathing area.

Location

Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Coordinates: centre at 12.3235°E, 44.3747°N. The bathing area extends approximately 1.481 km along the coast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2015–2018). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 17 CFU/100 mL; (95th percentile): 19 CFU/100 mL. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 10 CFU/100 mL; (95th percentile): 10 CFU/100 mL. No short-term pollution events were recorded during bathing seasons 2015–2018. The Bevano stream mouth is located to the south of the area and may cause eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacteria-related eutrophic events have been reported.

Risks

The Bevano stream mouth to the south may cause eutrophication. Macroalgae proliferation (Ulva genus) occurred in July–August 2018 in the central-northern coastal section, affecting bathing area use during biomass accumulation. Beach erosion is ongoing. The northern zone is subject to sand replenishment interventions. Until 15 July, the area is closed to transit and bathing to protect bird nesting.
