Bellaria - Pedrera Grande Nord is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Bellaria Igea Marina in the Rimini province of Emilia-Romagna. The beach extends for approximately 400 meters and is characterized as a high-tourism zone with numerous hotels and beach establishments. Lifeguard services are constantly present during the bathing season. Sand profiling interventions are carried out outside the bathing season. The beach width varies between 60 and 100 meters.

Coastal marine water. Beach area extends approximately 400 meters with variable width of 60–100 meters. The Pedrera Grande waterway flows into the sea near the southern boundary of the bathing area.

Location

Located in Bellaria Igea Marina (Igea Marina Sud), Rimini province, Emilia-Romagna region. The area is situated in the central-southern zone with access to three beach establishments offering first aid services, restrooms including disabled facilities, hot showers, and sports structures.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Good (reference years 2021–2024). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 202 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 341 CFU/100 ml. Enterococcci intestinali (90th percentile): 16 CFU/100 ml; Enterococchi intestinali (95th percentile): 19 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 when Escherichia coli exceeded legal limits; this was recognized as an anomalous situation by the European Commission. A temporary bathing ban was issued on 27 July 2022 and revoked on 28 July 2022.

Risks

Two stormwater discharge outlets (n. 233 and 29V) drain into Pedrera Grande, which discharges into the sea near the southern boundary of the bathing area. During intense or prolonged precipitation events, the Pedrera Grande can carry urban runoff into the sea. The Pedrera Grande outlet is visible on the beach marked by a sluice gate and triangular warning signs. The presence of Pedrera Grande can cause eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacterial blooms have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton or macroalgae blooms were recorded during 2020–2023.
