Torre Pedrera - Pedrera Grande Sud is a sandy beach located in Rimini, in the Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 450 meters. The area is a high-tourism zone with numerous hotels and beach facilities, with constant lifeguard service during the bathing season. Sand profile interventions are conducted outside the bathing season.

Location

Located in the municipality of Rimini at Torre Pedrera, bordering Bellaria Igea Marina (Igea Marina Sud). Beach width varies between 60–100 meters. Medium bather attendance.

Facilities

Four beach facilities present with first-aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports structures, and food service points. Lifeguards on duty during bathing season.

Bathing season monitoring conducted annually with quality classification reviewed through 2029.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for the reference years 2021–2024. Escherichia Coli at 90th percentile: 88 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 129 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal Enterococci at 90th percentile: 12 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 13 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation was recorded on 26 July 2022 with exceedance of Escherichia coli limits, classified by the European Commission as an anomalous event. Stormwater discharge from the Pedrera Grande ditch occurs near the northern boundary, visible by a gate and triangular warning signs.

Risks

During intense or prolonged rainfall events, the Pedrera Grande ditch can discharge urban runoff into the sea. The ditch drains a basin of 539.04 hectares, including 38.73 hectares of urban area served by white (stormwater) drainage networks. The proximity of the Pedrera Grande ditch may cause eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacterial blooms or phytoplankton/macroalgae proliferation events were recorded in 2020–2023.
