Bielener Kiesgewaesser

Bielener Kiesgewässer is a natural lake bathing beach located in Nordhausen, accessible via Rothenburgstraße. The beach is approximately 300 metres long and accommodates an average of up to 800 visitors. The bathing area features a large meadow with a nudist section, children's play equipment, beach volleyball court, and camping facilities.

Water

Natural lake with a surface area of 0.3 km² and maximum depth of 27 metres. Elevation is 170 metres above sea level. The lake lacks significant surface water inflow and experiences natural water renewal through groundwater inflow or throughflow, specifically through bank filtration from the Zorge river. The shoreline consists of gravel and sandy areas.

Nordhausen, accessible via Rothenburgstraße. Free parking is available. The monitoring point is located at coordinates 10.8237°E, 51.4822°N (ETRS89).

Water Quality

The lake is classified as oligotrophic with ecological status class ÖKZ 1 (very good). Potential pollution sources include the Nordhausen wastewater treatment plant located 300 metres away discharging into the Zorge, a storm water drainage system discharging into the Zorge, and the Crankshaft Powertrain industrial facility located approximately 700 metres away. A camping site operates on the bathing area grounds.

No cyanobacteria blooms reported. No macrophyte or filamentous algae mass growth reported. Low risk from waterfowl contamination through swans and coots. No other significant health hazards identified.
