Bleibtreusee Badestrand

Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Bleibtreusee is an artificial lake created in 1975 located in the Rhein-Erft district. It has been officially designated as a bathing water body since 1989. The lake covers 74.2 hectares with a mean depth of 6.9 metres and maximum depth of 12.8 metres. Water transparency exceeds 2 metres. The bathing beach section is 500 metres long.

Water

Artificial lake covering 74.2 hectares. Mean depth 6.9 metres, maximum depth 12.8 metres. Water exchange time exceeds 30 days through inflow and groundwater circulation. The lake is situated in lowland terrain below 200 metres elevation. Substrate is clayey with limestone geology. The shoreline is near-natural in structure.

Location

Bleibtreusee is located near Erftstadt in the Rhein-Erft district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The water ski facility operator is Wasserski-Bleibtreusee GmbH & CoKG, Klosengartenstr. 31, 50374 Erftstadt.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent in all four years 2020–2023. Mean water temperature 19.9–21.3 °C, pH 8.30–8.47, conductivity 550–560 µS/cm. No relevant pollution sources have been identified in the catchment area. No contamination in sediments has been detected.

Risks

Risk of future cyanobacterial mass development is low. No cyanobacterial blooms were observed during the past four years. Risk of future phytoplankton mass development is low. Bird populations present with no significant impact on water quality to date.
