Otto-Maigler-See is an artificial lake created around 1977 located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The bathing beach covers 450 metres of shoreline and has been designated as a bathing water body since 1989. The lake has a surface area of 50.5 hectares with moderate depth averaging 4 metres and a maximum depth of 7 metres. Water transparency exceeds 2 metres and the water body is stratified with a water exchange time greater than 30 days.

Artificial lake with a surface area of 50.5 hectares. Average water depth is 4 metres with maximum depth of 7 metres. Water temperature ranges from 14.8 to 25.2 degrees Celsius (mean 19.7°C). pH values range from 8.24 to 8.89 (mean 8.49). Conductivity ranges from 460 to 580 µS/cm (mean 510 µS/cm). Water transparency exceeds 2 metres. Water exchange time is greater than 30 days. The catchment area is very small (less than 10 km²). Substrate is calcareous and loamy. The shoreline is naturally structured.

Location

Otto-Maigler-See is located in the Rhein-Erft district, with administrative responsibility held by Bergheim (50124). The bathing area is managed by Wald und Holz NRW, Regionalforstamt Rhein-Sieg-Erft at Krewelstraße 7, 53783 Eitdorf.

Water Quality

Water quality rated as excellent for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. No relevant pollution sources identified. No microbiological or chemical contamination detected in sediments. No discharge of wastewater, industrial effluent, or stormwater identified in the catchment area.

Risks

Cyanobacterial water blooms were not observed within the past four years and the risk of future mass development is low. The risk of future mass development of macroalgae and phytoplankton is low. Bird presence has been recorded but currently poses no relevant impact on water quality.
