Bötzsee is a natural lake situated approximately 15 km east of Berlin on the Barnim Ground Moraine Plateau. The lake has an elongated, irregular basin oriented north-south, formed during the last ice age by meltwater erosion. It measures approximately 3 km in length with a surface area of 86 hectares and a maximum depth of 13.8 metres. The lake maintains clear water with summer visibility depths between 1.4 and 3.5 metres and supports diverse aquatic communities.
