Straussee is a natural lake located approximately 20 km east of Berlin on the Barnim Ground Moraine Plateau. The lake measures 136 hectares with a maximum depth of 20 metres and is approximately 3.8 km long, oriented north to south. It receives water primarily from groundwater and also from surface inflows including the Rüdersdorfer Mühlenfließ from the north and the Roter Hofgraben from the northeast. The lake's catchment area spans approximately 69 square kilometres and is predominantly forested at 83 percent.
