Cabedelo is a bathing water located at the mouth of the Mondego River in a mesotidal estuary with irregular river discharges. It is a Type III beach associated with sensitive natural systems and experiences strong user demand. The water is not subject to direct influence from urban centers.

Figueira da Foz municipality, located to the south at the mouth of the Mondego River. Monitoring point coordinates: Latitude 40.14332°, Longitude -8.86669°.

Season

May 31st to September 21st, 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012. Monitoring frequency is one sample per week. No short-term pollution events occurred in bathing season 2024.

Risks

Diffuse sources of fecal contamination from freshwater flows originating north of the bathing area, solid waste from beach activities, marine litter, bird colonies, and high user numbers. Heavy rainfall may cause variability in microbiological indicators. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton have likely potential for proliferation; macroalgae proliferation is unlikely.
