Location

Caulonia, Calabria, Italy, in the province of Reggio Calabria. The site is located in an area facing agricultural territories north of the inhabited center of Caulonia.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The bathing water body is identified as Caulonia - Riace. Wastewater treatment is managed by treatment plants at Stignano and Caulonia Focà.

Risks

The mouth of the Fiumara Precarito has been identified as a source of pollution. Potential pollution sources include accidental failures of treatment plants and overflow from the depuration facilities at Stignano and Caulonia Focà. Short-term pollution events and anomalous situations have not been verified. No algal proliferation events have been recorded in the past four years.
