Caterisano is a sandy bathing water located along the Strait coast near the inhabited center of Steccato in Cutro, Calabria. The beach has a gentle slope with a gradient of 1.4% from the shoreline to the 5-meter depth contour. Sediment grain size ranges from 0.13 to 2 mm. The water is classified as excellent quality. The bathing area extends over 1.413 square kilometers.

Location

Cutro municipality, Crotone province, Calabria region, Italy. The bathing area is located in front of the Steccato residential center. The Belcastro–Cutro water body serves the area.

Facilities

Accessible infrastructure for disabled persons (beach crossing platforms). Animals are permitted in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The Vallone Pozzo Fieto watercourse has been identified as a source affecting the bathing water. Wastewater treatment measures are in place. No specific active mitigation measures are currently in effect.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events related to runoff from urban areas have been identified as potential impacts from the Vallone Pozzo Fieto outlet. Cyanobacterial proliferation has not been recorded in the past four years. Macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation has not been recorded in the past four years.
