Chalet Del Lago

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Chalet - Grigneto is a bathing area on the eastern shore of Lago Grande di Avigliana in northern Italy. The site features a grassy waterfront with a gently sloping lakebed and a small marina with pontile for recreational boats. The beach extends approximately 10 metres along the shore. The area is privately owned by a restaurant and small sailing club, with two bars providing services to visitors.

Water

Lake (Lago Grande di Avigliana). The bathing area covers 0.229 km². The lake is enclosed by hills forming a catchment basin with discontinuously urbanized territory surrounding it.

Location

Avigliana, Province of Turin, Piedmont region. The bathing area is located on Lago Grande di Avigliana at an altitude of 346 metres above sea level.

Facilities

Two bars. Small marina (circolo nautico) with pontile for recreational boats.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is EXCELLENT based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 20.2 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 32.3 MPN/100 ml. Enterococchi 90th percentile: 21.2 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 34.0 MPN/100 ml.

Risks

The lake shows eutrophic conditions due to historical wastewater discharge from Avigliana. Cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the photic zone at the lake centre; 4 of 12 cyanobacterial samples analysed over the last four years showed densities of 20,000 cells/ml or greater. Short-term pollution events may occur due to undersizing of the circular collector and inadequate maintenance of lifting stations along the circumlacustrine sewer, particularly during heavy tourist influx or without proper maintenance. No toxic effects have been reported.
