Coastal marine waters off Nice, extending to 300 meters from the municipal shoreline.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring covers 26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach along the Nice coastline.

Season

June 1 to September 30, 2024.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring program established under European Directive 2006/7/CE and French law LEMA. Bacteriological parameters monitored: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Good quality threshold: Escherichia coli less than 1000 CFU/100ml, intestinal enterococci less than 370 CFU/100ml. Weekly sampling conducted June 1 to September 30, with pre-season sampling between May 10-20. Results interpreted within 36 hours minimum. Non-compliant results trigger counter-analysis and investigation of sewerage networks.

Risks

Pathogenic germs from swimmers, sewerage and stormwater networks (structural insufficiency, accidents, overflow during rainfall), and terrestrial input from watercourses. Algal proliferation (Ostreopsis ovata mentioned). Hydrocarbon pollution potential. Indeterminate pollution sources.
