Seawater bathing areas along the Nice coastline monitored for water quality.

Location

26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach in Nice, France. The mayor's authority extends 300 metres from the communal shoreline.

Facilities

Daily water surveillance by municipal agents. Daily cleaning of floating debris by cleaning boats from the city of Nice. Visual surveillance of water conditions.

Season

1 June to 30 September. Pre-season sampling between 10 and 20 May. Weekly monitoring during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on bacteriological thresholds: Enterococcus intestinalis threshold 370/100ml and Escherichia coli threshold 1000/100ml indicate good quality. Results are interpreted within 36 hours of sampling. Exceedances trigger counter-analysis and network investigation, with beach closure if pollution is confirmed. Temporary sewer overflows are managed preventively based on discharge volume.

Risks

Pathogenic germs from bathers, sewerage and stormwater networks (structural insufficiency, accidents, overloading during rainfall), and surface water runoff. Algal proliferation (Ostreopsis ovata) and hydrocarbon pollution are identified hazards.
