Coastal Mediterranean seawater. The mayor's authority extends 300 metres from the communal shoreline.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring covers 26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach.

Season

1 June to 30 September 2024.

Water Quality

Bacteriological monitoring for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Good quality threshold: Enterococci ≤370/100ml and E. coli ≤1000/100ml. Weekly control during the bathing season (1 June to 30 September) plus a pre-season sampling between 10–20 May. Laboratory CARSO-LSEHL conducts sampling and analysis. Results available minimum 36 hours after sampling. Non-conforming results trigger counter-analysis and beach closure if pollution is confirmed.

Risks

Pathogenic germs from swimmers, wastewater and stormwater networks, and terrestrial inputs from watercourses. Marine pollution from hydrocarbons, indeterminate sources, and algal proliferation (Ostreopsis ovata). Temporary wastewater network discharges occur.
