Water Quality

New bathing water identified in 2024 bathing season with quality class not yet assigned. Current water quality classification under assessment according to Decreto-Lei 135/09. Short-term pollution event occurred on 15 July 2024 with non-compliant microbiological indicator values; bathing was prohibited from 17–19 July until compliant results were obtained. Event was linked to intense, short-lived rainfall and diffuse pollution sources.

Risks

Diffuse pollution sources including solid waste from beach activities, surface runoff, and high number of users. Cyanobacteria proliferation classified as likely.
