Cova da Alfarroba is a long sandy beach surrounded by magnificent dunes along an extensive white sand area. The dune area is protected by wooden fencing and offers views of Peniche.

Coastal bathing water (CWB-II-3) in the Ribeiras do Oeste river basin.

Location

Located in Peniche municipality. Coordinates: LAT 39.36100°, LON -9.362633° (ETRS89). This bathing water is grouped with Gamboa and Peniche de Cima, with Gamboa serving as the representative monitoring point.

Season

June 12 to September 12 (2021 season). Water is sampled triweekly during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on 2020 assessment under Decreto-Lei 135/09. No significant microbiological pollution sources identified in the area. There is no history of short-term pollution events. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2020 bathing season.

Risks

Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation potential are all unlikely. Warning signs will be posted if beach users are considered at risk from pollution events.
