Curnic beach is a 500-metre sandy beach in Guissény, extending from the Sèchery area to the port dike. The beach faces the English Channel with a north-west orientation and is exposed to open swell. Algae accumulation on the beach is minimal. The surrounding watershed covers approximately 38 hectares with dense urbanization near the coast and natural areas inland.

Coastal marine water facing the English Channel with north-west orientation. Watershed area: approximately 38 hectares. Currents are moderate. The beach is exposed to offshore swell with minimal shelter.

Location

Guissény, Brittany. The beach extends from the Sèchery to the Curnic port dike. The northern boundary is marked by rocky outcrops extending seaward toward Enez Du island.

Facilities

Information panel at the north-east access point. Dogs prohibited from 10:00 to 20:00 between 1 July and 15 September. At minimum two sanitary installations present (per classification as 'equipped bathing zone'). Information signage regarding site safety and sanitary control analysis results.

Season

Official bathing season: 1 July to 15 September. Regular water quality monitoring conducted.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as 'Good' quality as of the 2013 season. Profile revision was required by 31 December 2017. Water quality monitored for bacterial indicators including Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Historical data analysis and 2018 monitoring results are documented.

Risks

Potential contamination from individual sewage installations presenting identified risk on the watershed. No discharge outlets identified directly on the beach.
