Curnic and Sècherie beaches are located in Guissény, Brittany, extending approximately 500 metres and 1300 metres respectively. Curnic beach stretches from Sècherie to the port dike, while Sècherie beach extends from Vougot to Curnic. The beaches face the English Channel with a north-west orientation and are exposed to offshore swells. Possible green algae deposits occur some years depending on tides and wind direction, though they remain limited and none were observed during summer 2010 visits.

Water

Coastal marine water bodies facing the English Channel with a north-west orientation. Curnic beach approximately 500 metres in length; Sècherie beach approximately 1300 metres in length. Currents on the beaches remain moderate. The beaches have little shelter from offshore swells.

Location

The beaches are located on the communes of Guissény and Plouguerneau in Brittany. Curnic beach extends from Sècherie to Curnic port dike. Sècherie beach extends from Vougot to the boundary with Curnic beach, marked by a rocky foreshore extending seaward towards Enez Du island.

Water Quality

Vougot/Sècherie beach classified as excellent quality under European Directive 2006/7/CE. Curnic beach classified as good quality under the same directive. Water quality is monitored according to European bathing water directives of 1976 and 2006.

Risks

Possible green algae deposits on the beach depending on yearly conditions, tides and wind orientation, though deposits remain very limited. No discharge points were identified on either beach during field surveys.
