Cyprus Coastal 1 - Excellent

Dasoudhi is an extensive sandy beach located in front of a camping area in Chrysochous city. The beach is 1,750 metres long with natural shoreline characteristics and sandy bottom composition. Water quality is classified as excellent based on long-term monitoring data. The beach is designated with Blue Flag status and offers summer seasonal services including lifeguard coverage and water sports activities.

Water

Northern Chrysochous Bay. Average water depth: 2 metres. Maximum water depth: 3.5 metres. Sandy bottom composition.

Location

Chrysochous city, Paphos district, Cyprus. Access is via the camping area or dirt road. Coordinates: 32.4181°E, 35.0439°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Public facilities available. Waste collection bins throughout the beach. Summer seasonal services: loungers and umbrellas. Lifeguard and lifeguard equipment during summer. Blue Flag designation. Maximum daily bather capacity: 1,200.

Season

Summer seasonal monitoring and services. Southeastern winds prevail during the bathing period.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The bathing water has been monitored for many years, with formal monitoring reports under Directive 76/160/EEC beginning in 2004 following Cyprus's EU accession. The associated inland surface water body (CY_2-2-6_R3-HM) is in good chemical status and moderate ecological status. The coastal water body is in good ecological status.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development based on identified pollution sources. Dysfunctional sewerage systems from the camping area and presence of domestic animals on the beach present low risk of short-term pollution events. One short-term pollution incident recorded between 2008–2010 (17 August 2010, attributed to passing vessel).
