Chalavro is an extensive sandy beach located at the base of a small elevation below the central Akamas road in the Paphos district. The beach measures 940 meters in length with an average water depth of 1.6 meters and a maximum depth of 4 meters. The shoreline features a natural littoral zone with sandy sediment composition. The beach is situated within the Natura 2000 SPA network (Akamas Peninsula, code CY4000023) and is characterized by shrubby vegetation including palm trees and conifers. Access is relatively difficult via a small pathway.

Location

The beach is located in the municipality of Neo Chorio, Paphos district, Cyprus. Access is via a small pathway from the central Akamas road.

Facilities

No public facilities are available. Toilets can be accessed through nearby hotels. Waste collection bins are present along the entire beach length, maintained by the Neo Chorio Community Council. During summer season, hotels provide services including sunbeds and umbrellas.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The bathing water body is associated with an internal surface water body (CY_2-1-3_R1) that is in good chemical and ecological condition. The coastal body to which the beach belongs is in good ecological condition. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the 2008-2010 bathing seasons.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Possible short-term pollution sources include malfunction of wastewater systems at coastal developments, with an estimated frequency of once per bathing season lasting 1-2 days.
