Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Daugų lake bathing area is located near the Daugų rowing base in the Salos village, Daugų administrative district, Alytaus region of Lithuania. The bathing area is publicly managed and features a semi-natural structure with a sandy swimming zone, grassy rest and children's play areas. The lake has good ecological potential and maintains excellent water quality. Water quality has met excellent standards from 2018 to 2024 according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB requirements.

Water

Lake Didžiulis (Daugų ež.), classified as type 3 water body. Beach length: 37.89 metres. Water depth increases abruptly from the shore, with maximum depth of 2–3 metres. Lake shoreline includes reed vegetation covering 20 per cent of the shore. Protected zone width: 20 metres. Sediment type: sand. Average annual precipitation in the basin: 571 millimetres, with highest rainfall in October and lowest in September.

Facilities

Biotalet (1 unit). Waste bins periodically emptied. Rest zone, swimming zone, and children's play area available. Dogs and pets are not prohibited from the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent from 2011 to 2024. Water body has good ecological status and meets good ecological potential requirements per EU Directive 2000/60/EB. No phosphorus and nitrogen testing was conducted. Water clarity was monitored. No cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton growth tendencies have been identified.

Risks

Surface rainwater runoff during heavy rainfall may affect water quality. Primary pollution sources identified: wastewater and agriculture. An oil separator and wastewater treatment installations are in place. Recreational territory classification applies to the impact zone.
