Davanti Torrente Ragnola is a bathing beach in San Benedetto del Tronto with fine sand and an average slope of 3%, protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The beach has a width of 60 metres and experiences an astronomical tide range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area is densely urbanised with a railway line passing through.

Connected to the Tronto River (Porto di San Benedetto del Tronto_F Tronto). Distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is approximately 80 metres.

Location

San Benedetto del Tronto, Ascoli Piceno province, Marche region. Managed by the municipality at viale Alcide De Gasperi n. 124, CAP 63074.

Facilities

Beach establishment with refreshment point and sanitary facilities. Animal access is permitted. Lifeguards, toilets, and medical services are available (tourist medical guard and first aid via the Red Cross).

Water Quality

Classification E. The area is served by a combined public sewer system connected to a treatment plant at Porto d'Ascoli with a designed capacity of 180,000 population equivalents and current capacity of 100,000 population equivalents. The treatment plant is a biological type with activated sludge. COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters were compliant in 2006 and 2007. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were compliant.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events from accidental equipment failures and sewer overflows at two pump stations (Ragnola primo at Viale Europa and Ragnola secondo at Via Negri). Bathing prohibition notices and signage are in place.
