A fine sand beach in San Benedetto del Tronto with a gentle slope of 3% on both the emerged and submerged portions. The beach is protected by artificial rocky outcrops and has a medium width of 50 metres. The surrounding area is densely urbanized with a railway line passing through it. The distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is approximately 80 metres, with an astronomical tide range of 30–50 centimetres.

Water Quality

Classification E (poorest quality). The area is served by a mixed public sewer system connected to a treatment plant in Porto d'Ascoli with a design capacity of 180,000 equivalent inhabitants and current potential of 100,000 equivalent inhabitants. The mixed sewerage system also collects industrial effluent equivalent to 40,000 inhabitants. Treatment plant parameters (COD, BOD5, suspended solids) were compliant in 2006 and 2007. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were compliant.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events caused by accidental failures and sewage overflows from two lifting stations at Porto d'Ascoli roundabout. No cyanobacterial proliferation reported. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation reported.
