Alcorlo Reservoir is a continental bathing area located in La Toba municipality, Guadalajara province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The reservoir is situated on the Bornova River watercourse at an altitude of 910 meters. It is a monomictiic, calcareous water body with mean annual temperatures below 15°C, belonging to high mountain river systems. The reservoir covers a surface area of 598.61 hectares with a total volume of 180 cubic hectoliters. The bathing area features sandy and gravelly beach substrate with herbaceous vegetation including thistles and clovers.

Water

Reservoir on the Bornova River. Surface area: 598.61 hectares. Total volume: 180 cubic hectometers. Substrate comprises gneiss, sandstones with conglomerates and clays, limestones and dolomites, clays with gypsum, sands and clays. Average water reserves during bathing season (1996-2006): 94.11 cubic hectometers annually, with variations from 116.85 (June) to 77.49 (September) cubic hectometers. Maximum historical reserve: 159.87 cubic hectometers (June 2001). Minimum historical reserve: 42.4 cubic hectometers (September 1999).

Location

From La Toba, take the CM-1000 road towards Congostrina for approximately 3.5 kilometers, then turn left onto CM-1001. At kilometer 49 of CM-1001, take the right turn at a small chapel (ermita) and continue straight on the track until reaching the reservoir shore. No parking facilities are available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification (2003-2009): conformed with guide values and imperative values across all monitoring seasons. Fecal coliforms never exceeded the imperative value of 2000 UFC/100ml throughout the historical monitoring period (2003-2008). Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci concentrations during 2008-2009 remained within acceptable limits. Water body status classified as heavily modified. Five municipal wastewater discharge points identified with significant short-duration contamination pressure. Diffuse sources include livestock grazing from nearby municipalities.

Risks

Short-duration contamination risk from five municipal wastewater discharges (from Congostrina, Zarzuela de Jadraque, Hiendelaencina, Villares de Jadraque, and Arroyo de las Fraguas). Diffuse contamination from livestock in surrounding municipalities (approximately 614 sheep and goat heads). Risk of accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, organic waste, and sediment/sludge remobilization.
