Water

Reservoir (embalse) on the Tajo River. Surface area: 3,313.88 hectares. Volume: 802.56 cubic hectometers. Maximum normal water level: 718 meters above sea level. Altitude of bathing zone: 740 meters. Bed composition includes clays, silts, aquatic plants, and algal growth. Right bank has fluvial substrates (gravels, sands, silts, clays); left bank has sedimentary substrates (clays, silts, reddish sands, conglomerates, sandstones).

Location

Durón, Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Access from Trillo via N-204 road toward Durón; after kilometer 21, turn left on a marked path. Approximately 2.9 km from the town of Durón. No parking facilities available.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as conforming to imperative values according to monitoring data from 2003-2009. Fecal coliform concentrations never exceeded the imperative threshold of 2000 CFU/100ml throughout the historical monitoring period (2002-2007). Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci measurements for 2008-2009 remained within acceptable ranges. Water body classified as heavily modified.

Risks

Short-duration contamination risks identified from: self-contamination by bathers, sewage systems from nearby towns (Durón, El Olivar, Budía, Alocén), livestock farming (sheep grazing), agricultural runoff from crops and pastures, and potential accidental or illegal discharges. Diffuse pollution from agricultural activities and livestock presence in the catchment area.
