Embalse Buendía 02, also known as La Cespera, is a continental bathing area located in a reservoir on the Guadiela River in Buendía, Cuenca Province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The bathing zone is situated on the left margin of the reservoir at an elevation of 689 meters. The reservoir has a surface area of 8,194.80 hectares and a volume of 1,638 cubic hectometers. The beach features a rocky substrate with pine forest, low scrub, grasses, and herbaceous vegetation in the surrounding area.

Water

The Buendía Reservoir is a monomictic, calcareous water body on the Guadiela River with a carbonated substrate composed of dolomites and marges. Surface area: 8,194.80 hectares. Maximum normal water level: 712.00 meters. Volume: 1,638 cubic hectometers. The channel bed comprises silt, sand, gravel, boulders, and blocks. The water body is classified as heavily modified.

Location

From Sacedón, take the CM-2000 direction towards Buendía. Upon reaching the town, follow signs to the camping La Cespera. Take the first right turn past the camping and follow a dirt road for approximately 300 meters to reach the left margin of the reservoir where the bathing zone is located. Parking is available.

Facilities

Parking available. No lifeguards, rescue posts, information signs, bars, snack areas, waste bins, toilets, showers, pools, recreational zones, fountains, or water fountains. Dock available upstream.

Water Quality

Monitoring data from 2013 shows measurements of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Several significant point sources of contamination have been identified, including wastewater discharge from Villalba del Rey (10,000 meters away), Tinajas (18,700 meters away), and Huete (27,600 meters away). Diffuse sources include livestock and agricultural runoff from surrounding municipalities. Self-contamination from bathers is identified as a significant short-term risk.

Risks

Identified short-term contamination risks include: wastewater discharge from nearby treatment facilities, accidental or illegal discharges near the bathing zone, runoff from livestock and agricultural areas due to heavy rainfall or strong winds, self-contamination from high numbers of bathers, remobilization of sediments and sludge, organic waste, dead animals, and discharge impacts during abnormally reduced water volumes.
