Two bathing areas located on the García Sola Reservoir in Extremadura, Spain. The Valmayor area is accessed via the N-430 highway at exit 167, proceeding 2 km beyond the rotonda to reach parking and the dam area. The Peloche area is accessed through the village of Peloche via the BA-138 road to reach the artificial beach. Both areas are situated on an artificial reservoir created by a 65-meter-high concrete dam completed in 1962 on the Guadiana River.

Water

García Sola Reservoir on the Guadiana River. The reservoir has a capacity of 554 cubic hectares with a catchment area of 1,384 square kilometres. The water body is monomictic and siliceous, belonging to low reaches of principal river axes. Substrate composed of siliceous rock, mainly slate. Both bathing beaches have concrete beds with small loose sand and gravel present in the Valmayor area.

Location

Valmayor: Located in the municipality of Talarrubias, Badajoz province. Access via N-430 at kilometre 167, turn at first rotonda exit, proceed 2 km to parking area near the dam. Peloche: Located in the municipality of Herrera del Duque, Badajoz province. Access via N-430 exit 167, then via BA-138 road through Peloche village to artificial beach. Both areas have parking available.

Facilities

Valmayor area: Parking, informational signs, trash bins, containers, merendero (picnic area), showers, dock, recreational equipment, pet access allowed, bar/snack facility under renovation. Peloche area: Parking, informational signs, trash bins, containers, merendero, showers, dock, recreational zone, sports installations, fountains, bar/snack facility, no pet access allowed. Both areas have informational panels about flora and fauna. Garbage collection is performed every two days in Valmayor and daily in Peloche.
